Civil Society Initiative

Civil Society Initiative (CSI) is a national, independent, non-governmental, non-partisan and not- for- profit human rights and advocacy based organization established in 2004 in Iraq. Since then, CSI works on three key areas: capacity building of the most vulnerable groups, civic education and advocacy for human rights issues. CSI has worked on rural and urban youth leadership and engaged them in a variety of communal activities through building bridges between the local authorities and citizens.

Moto
Community mobilization, Development & Well-Being of the Community

Our Vision
A diverse and inclusive community where everyone can actively participate to realize their potentials.

Our Mission
We make efforts to empower people, especially the most vulnerable groups toward positive changes through our social, economic, technical and other programs to address the social, environmental, economic and cultural challenges we face today.

Methodology: Objectives and Activities

CSI will work to meet the goal and objectives through the following methods:

After the end of (Islamic State in Iraq and Syria - ISIS) and starting of the transition stage from emergency to early recovery era in Iraq, CSI’s strategy focuses on social inclusion, community resilience and Community well-being to seek possible methods to recover from the aftermaths of a decade-long internal conflicts which resulted in increasing of poverty, unemployment rates, social unrest and community disputes.

1. The process of community mobilization to allow people in the community to identify their needs and problems and bring them together for a social action and their community development.
2. Work for Community wellbeing through identifying the social, economic, environmental, cultural, and political conditions by individuals and their communities as essential for them to flourish and fulfill their potential.
3. Capacity development of vulnerable individuals and groups to obtain, improve, and retain the skills, knowledge, tools, equipment and other resources needed to do their jobs competently or have larger impact on the community and decision makers.
4. Community advocacy through programs and services, developing partnerships, and changing public policies, laws, and practices to improve the living conditions.
5. Community resilience: we encourage the sustained ability of our community to utilize available resources (energy, communication, transportation, food, etc.) to respond, withstand and recover from the turmoil situations which Iraq and KR-I undergone.
6. We work through an on-going process of social exclusion to ensure that those at risk of poverty and social exclusion gain the opportunities and resources necessary to participate fully in economic, social and cultural life and to enjoy a standard of living and well-being that is considered normal in the society in which they live. We ensure that they have greater participation in decision-making which affects their lives and access to their fundamental rights.
