Providing psycho-social support for women and girls
CSI is running two Social Women Centers in Centre of Sulaimany and Bazyan Districts. The objectives of these centers are to provide psycho-social supports for IDPs of middle & north of Iraq and Syrian refugees especially for women and girls who suffer from trauma and post-conflict aftermaths who coming from Shangal District, the Ezidees.
The services provided by the Social Centres include:
- Distribution of Kits and women clothing:
- Dignity kits have been distributed to IDPs women who in need of children care in Slemani in five locations in which Christian people live.
- Psychological support meeting:
- Psychological support sessions were conducted at the women centers to discuss consequences of the war and the situation in which the IDPs live now. Face to face discussion and dialogue conducted among the attendees and the physician to focus on their own issues.
- Health support meeting and patient referral:
- Health support sessions have been conducted in the women centers to highlight the health issues relevant to women and children. Presentation displayed and face to face discussions were conducted between the lecturer and the participants.
- Patients referred to different health centers including maternity and Shar hospital.
- Social support sessions:
- Social and gender-based violence sessions were conducted in the women center to highlight the violence issues such as general concepts of GBV, reasons behind GBV and protection issues.
- Recreational activities:
- Events arranged at the women centers to engage women and girls in a recreational activities. The activities including: showing films, practicing Uga, vocational training such as sewing, hairdressing.
- Visits of physicians to IDPs locations:
- Physicians visited the locations in which IDPs hosted in Slemani and also districts outside Slemani in Bazyan and Barika to see sick people and to refer them to clinics and hospitals. CSI staff has made arrangements to send the sick people to volunteer physicians and Government health centers.
- International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women
- A Seminar dedicate to the International Day was organized to celebrate this occasion in which 40 women participated representing all five locations in which the Christian IDPs live in Slemani.
- Outreach sessions for parents:
- Sessions conducted for parents in which parents participated to highlight the need of sending their children to school and continue supporting them if they already sent them.
