Youth Political Participation Discussion Forums
The project gathers young people members of the main political parties, independent youth, NGO members and journalists in Kurdistan Region to discuss aspects of political participation if youth within or out of the parties.
To prepare for these events, CSI project staff met members of the two youth forums in Chamchamal and Kalar to discuss the meeting agendas, invitation of the young people and other preparation needs. All papers were prepared prior to the meetings such as topics to be discussed, a brief about the project and its goal and objectives and detailed info about how to join the facebook page for this project. Every discussion forum is run by two or more active members of the youth forums to manage the discussion, raise issues for discussion and arrange participation of the participants.
A survey which had been conducted by the two youth forums in Chamchamal and Kalar was shown to brainstorm the participants of the meetings on role of youth, their willingness for participation, role of the parties in engagement of youth in their organizations and others. All discussions have been recorded in order to collect different ideas about youth political participation, issues which hamper active participation and ways to reach a healthy engagement of youth in the political process. However, a form which includes a set of questions has been filled by the participants to shed lights on some aspects of youth participation in the political process. Prior to each event, a 20 page handout on political participation of youth had been given to each participant. The publication was made by CSI staff manually and its topics were selected from Ahram Center for Strategic and political Studies from the web.
To reach diversity of the participants, members of most the political parties were invited including Patriotic Union of Kurdistan, Kurdistan Democratic Party, Change Party (Gorran), Islamic Union in Kurdistan, the Kurdistan Communist Party, NGO members, free journalists and active individuals.
